An Air Conditioning unit is not the most complicated device in your home, but it is important that you have a basic understanding if how it works so you can talk with authority about the issues facing your unit when a service technician comes to your home. While the parts basically all work in the same way, there are many tools and improved materials that can dramatically increase or decrease the efficiency and performance of one unit versus another.

A good  technician will explain to you which unit is best for your home and why.But the bottom line is that every unit needs maintenance no matter how efficient it is. This would include things like checking wire seats, cleaning and inspecting coils, checking drain flows and removing obstructions, pressure testing for leak detection, etc. for most people this is beyond their scope of expertise and therefore many AC/Heating system only last 1/2 as long as they should. Don't let that happen to you!
